I know you've been sitting around asking yourselves, "what's mg watching on TV these days?"
Glad you asked!
The top tier of really good things on TV that are worth going out of your way to see, if you're me:
- Lost
- MI-5
- The Kumars at No. 42
- Two and a Half Men
- House
- Arrested Development
- Grounded for Life
- South Park
And then there's the tier of shows you watch because you're a silly person who happens to like them or just can't tear yourself away from them, if you're me:
- Stargate: Atlantis
- Stargate: SG-1
- Battlestar Galactica
- The West Wing
- Las Vegas
- Numb3rs (sic)
- Tilt
- Star Trek: Enterprise
- Queer Eye for the Straight Guy
- King of the Hill
- The Simpsons
- Malcolm in the Middle
- Monk
This time through I am resolved not to watch Survivor or The Apprentice, although I can't quite force myself not to watch American Idol so far. These three all suffer from being more of the same and quite frankly are totally played out. The thing about American Idol is that V and I just have so much fun pausing the TiVo every couple of minutes to make fun of the whole thing (contestants, judges, host, etc.) and laugh ourselves silly. Really, it takes us 90 minutes to watch an hour of it, and that includes fast-forwarding through the commercials.
So what are you watching? What's that super great show I don't know about yet you can clue me into?
Scrubs may be my favorite show on TV right now. I initially dismissed it as ER meets Malcolm in the Middle, but it actually goes a lot deeper than that, while still bringing the funny on a consistant basis.
Desperate Housewives started off great, but has cratered faster than Twin Peaks. I'm still watching, but the second season is a Maybe for me right now.
Amazing Race is my absolute favorite reality show. Though this season has suffered from some poor race design, and the most obnoxious reality contestant in the history of the genre, I still enjoy it every week.
And there's Mythbusters. I can't believe you don't watch it! If you haven't seen it, you've got to try it. Two special effects experts test out various myths and urban legends. Most get busted, some surprisingly get confirmed.
For example, it took about 2500 helium balloons to lift a small child off the ground, so the legend of someone being carred away by a bunch of balloons at a carnival - busted. But they found it would be possible to raise a sunken boat by filling it with enough ping-pong balls.
But the best part of the show is Adam and Jamie. They're definitely Of Our Tribe.

The only thing I watch regularly is Law and Order: Criminal Intent. The shows are formulaic and the characters mostly cardboard, but I love watching Vincent D'Onofrio. Goren is the uber-geek, and makes the show worth it.

Here I am, thinking about my friends with dormant blogs, and whaddaya know...
I'm really enjoying Numb3rs, although I think they're going to have trouble coming up with new story lines after a while. As Adrienne pointed out, it's a show that makes being smart cool. The dynamic between the academic and the agent offers possibilities to show that book-smart/street-smart doesn't have to be an absolute divide. (According to Heather, that's an angle The Apprentice is playing up this time around.)
I do wish I had any clue at all about the equations they're putting on the board...
